We sacrificed size and prettiness in the rooms and areas that would ultimately be moved downstairs. The only areas that will actually remain upstairs are the bedrooms, bathroom and toilet. Everything else will be converted so upstairs will essentially be the kids’ area.
The bathroom arrangement is the only thing that is changed on this plan.
There is no garage. There is no verandah (just cutting the verandah off the base plan saved us $6,000). There is no grass . . . not very many trees left, either. The house is not pretty or cute or grand. Right now, it is functional. And that’s enough, because it is ours.
What Is and What Will Be
The Staircase – is currently at the rear of the house. This will become internal as we build outwards downstairs.
The Living Area – will remain a TV hot spot. This is where the gaming console will go, a few beanbags, a comfy area for the kids to chill out for screen time.
The Master Bedroom – will become the oldest Hammerling’s bedroom.
The Kitchen – will be closed in for a guest room.
The Study – will become a dedicated playroom.
The Laundry – will become a storage room.
Bathroom and Toilet – remain the same.
Bedroom Two and Three – the youngest Hammerlings will have their own bedrooms.
This is the general idea of what is happening with the floorplan, but after we have lived in the house for a while, those plans may change.
